When is the 2026 Chilliwack Municipal Election?
Voting Day is Saturday, October 17, 2026. Advance voting is on Wednesday, October 3 and Wednesday, October 10, 2026. Locations are to be determined.
Where do I vote in Chilliwack?
Polling locations for the 2026 Chilliwack Municipal Election will be announced by the City of Chilliwack closer to Voting Day. Advance voting is on October 3 and October 10, 2026. Locations TBD. We’ll post confirmed polling locations here as soon as they’re available.
Do I need to register to vote?
In BC municipal elections, eligible voters on the provincial voters list are automatically included. If you’re not registered or have recently moved, you can register at the polls on Voting Day. Bring two pieces of ID showing your name and current Chilliwack address.
Who is eligible to vote in the Chilliwack Municipal Election?
You must be a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years old on Voting Day, a resident of Chilliwack for at least 30 days before Voting Day, and not disqualified under any enactment.
How many councillors are elected in Chilliwack?
Chilliwack City Council consists of a Mayor and six Councillors, all elected at-large. The Mayor and Councillors serve four-year terms.
How much can candidates spend on their campaign?
Campaign expense limits are set by the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act and calculated based on the number of electors. Individual contributions are capped at $1,429.70 per candidate per election.
Can businesses or organizations donate to a campaign?
No. Under BC’s Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, only individual Canadian citizens and permanent residents may make campaign contributions. Corporations, unions, and organizations are prohibited from donating.
What is the difference between a Mayor and a City Councillor?
The Mayor chairs council meetings, represents the city officially, and has specific powers under the Community Charter. Councillors vote on bylaws, budgets, and policies alongside the Mayor. Each councillor has an equal vote — the Mayor does not have a veto or extra voting power.
